Crackling Dawn is a four piece progressive death metal band from Portland Or. Crackling Dawn (formerly known as Southgate), has a spent a combined  31 years playing music together, even with the oldest member being 28. The rain that has poured on their heads constantly since birth, being from the Pacific Northwest; floods their psyches and influences their  atmosphere and musical passages .

IN THE PRESS

It takes you on a gargantuan voyage covering a range of emotions, that raises you up before sending you plummeting back down to earth. There is also plenty of melody on the record that often breaks down into more, calm serene moments with harmonious vocals that build up to the more deep gritty ones that make for a wide range of variety that allows you to stay engaged throughout Adrift."

"Next up was Southgate, also from Portland, Oregon. They have recently released a new EP entitled, The Failing. Southgate can be best described as a tsunami of heavy riffs combined with psychedelic tendencies. Southgate was a crowd pleaser and a must-see band."

"Simplicity is one of the most underrated aspects of metal. Being able to take a minimal amount of sound and turn it into a fully-fledged experience is a true virtue, and it takes a lot of talent to pull it off well. Notable examples in this category include Russian Circles and Gojira– bands that both exemplify the writing skill necessary to set a great precedent of what can be done with incredibly simplistic arrangements."
